EAAF generally becomes involved in a case when a human rights organization, special commission of inquiry, such as a truth commission, an international body such as the United Nations, or a judicial body requests its assistance. EAAF members are paid a regular salary from EAAF's general budget, which allows us to undertake missions without requiring the organization that invites us to cover salaries. This is very important, as human rights and judicial institutions in most of the countries where we work have few resources at their disposal. Funding sources for travel and local expenses vary from mission to mission: they may be funded partially or entirely by EAAF, by the local organization that requests our assistance, or by an international organization or foundation.
